Broccoli and Steak Stir Fry

What is the difference between broccoli and snot?
Kids don't eat broccoli.

I'm a big fan of leftovers.  HUGE fan.  More importantly, I like to take leftovers and revamp them so I can pretend I spent all evening cooking again...

The hubby grilled some steaks up the other day and shockingly enough, I actually was not able to eat off of mine.  I blame a late lunch that day, cause typically baby doesn't leave steak on the plate.

Running around all day and all of of sudden it was 5 and I had not even thought about dinner.  I recalled the leftover steak and the fact we always have some frozen broccoli florets on hand and BOOM, Broccoli Steak Stir Fry it was.

Here's what you need:
1 cup of rice
2 cups of water
1-2 teaspoons of butter
1-1 1/2 cup of broccoli florets (I used frozen, but fresh is always good)
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 red onion, chopped
1 cup of mushrooms, chopped
leftover steak, sliced thin
garlic powder, to taste
onion salt, to taste
salt
pepper
1/4-1/2 teaspoon of worcestershire
2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
1/2 cup of soy sauce
splash of wine (if you happen to be dinkin' while cookin, like I was)

Get out a cup of rice.

Get your rice water bowling (1:2 ratio of rice to water)

Once boiling, add rice, a dash of salt, and a small pat of butter.  Cook to directions, or about 20 minutes covered on low.

While the rice is going, get your Broccoli Steak topping ready.  Take 1-2 cups of frozen broccoli florets out and defrost in the microwave.  If you have fresh broccoli. high five (it tastes better), steam it til halfway cooked.

Grab a couple cloves of garlic, more if you feel like it.

Chop it up.

Use about half of any onion you desire or have on hand.  I love the color and flavor of the purple ones.

Dice that sucker up.

Chop up about 1 cup of mushrooms.

Pull out the piece de resistance, the best part, the leftover steak.

Talk sweet nothings to it in your best french accent, as you slice it into thin petite pieces.

Get a pan going with another pat of butter (or olive oil, what ever greasyness you're feeling like).

Add onions to the saute puddle.

Season them up.  Onion salt, garlic powder, worcestershire, salt, pepper...etc.  A lil bit of everything.

Mix'um up and cook them down.

Once you start to get a good caramel color on the onions, add the mushrooms.

Mix those up. mmmm, startin' to smell good.

Add some liquid.  1/2 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, a bit of wine (cause why not). Mix it.  Marvel at the beautamous thick dark syrupy sauce (make up some adjectives....).

Add your slightly steamed and/or defrosted broccoli florets to the gathering (cause its not a party til the steak comes).

Add steak. Purdy.

Mix it up. Dance a little. Mix some more.  Have some fun.

Get your done rice.  Put some in a bowl.  Top with cooked Broccoli-Steak sauceyness and throw on some seasame seeds for an extra somethin' something (if you have some on hand).
